Situated in an idyllic location in western Marin County, this extensive remodel transforms the residence into a modern green retreat. The floor plan was reworked to improve the connections to the site, and to take better advantage of the spectacular views of the area. In the process, single pane windows were changed out, insulation was added, siding was replaced, a high-performance firebox was installed in the existing fireplace, and appliances and mechanical equipment were updated with energy efficient models. In addition, the new roof hosts a native garden and photovoltaic panels. The house is a showcase of green materials and local craftsmanship including extensive use of salvaged and FSC sustainably harvested wood with low and non-toxic finishes, natural plaster walls, and bamboo cabinets.
